HYDERABAD: Habeebunissa Begum, a resident of Humayunnagar in the Old City, is death to get her Indian citizenship again. “She is 75 years previous and her husband and son have expired. I beg the federal government to lend a hand my sister in getting the Indian citizenship,” Begum’s brother Mir Taufeeq stated.
To get the Indian citizenship, her brother stated she had implemented in 1997. Despite several pleas, the Union ministry of house affairs has no longer thought to be her plea for Indian citizenship and it has been saved on the again burner. Begum had married Jabbar of Hyderabad right here. Jabbar’s brother, at the time of Partition, had chosen to visit Pakistan. “They stated they'd in finding some work for us. So, we left for Pakistan when there have been no restrictions on motion between India and Pakistan,” she instructed TOI.
However, by the point they made up our minds to go back, there have been laws in position. So, Habeebunissa were given a Pakistani passport and returned to India on a visa issued via the High Commission of India in Islamabad. On arriving in Hyderabad, she had to register herself with the city police as in keeping with laws. And since then, yearly she has been extending her stay for a duration of 12 months following several procedures. The police had sent her report to the MHA for Indian citizenship but there has no reaction so far.
In 1995, Begum had approached the High Commission for Pakistan in New Delhi and implemented for ‘Renunciation of Pakistan citizenship’. On June 2, 1995, she were given the renunciation certification. Since then, she has neither been a Pakistani nor an Indian. “Why should I be a Pakistani? Just because I had to take a Pakistani passport to go back to India, I was thought to be Pakistan citizen. After I were given renunciation of Pakistan citizenship, I've no longer been able to get my Indian citizenship again,” Begum stated, with a choked voice.
As a final hotel, she has written to external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj to lend a hand her. She sent her the ‘renunciation certificate’, passport copies of her husband who died in 2014 and his demise certificate. “Begum suffers from ill-health. Every year, she has to get her stay in India extended. She is totally heart-broken,” MBT leader Amjed Ullah Khan stated urging the federal government to give her Indian citizenship.
