Cabinet approves continuation of pre-matric, post matric, merit-cum-means scholarships for minorities
NEW DELHI: The Union Cabinet on Thursday approved the proposal for continuation of pre-matric, put up matric and merit-cum-means primarily based scholarship schemes for the scholars belonging to minority communities at a value of over Rs five,000 crore up to 2020.
Under the schemes, round 70 lakh scholarships are likely to be dispensed every year, an reputable commentary stated.
"The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved the proposal for continuation of pre-matric, post matric and merit-cum-means based scholarship schemes for the students belonging to the six notified minority communities at a total cost of Rs 5338.32 crore for period up to 2019-20," it stated.
This will benefit 70 lakh scholars every year, it stated.
These schemes might be applied throughout the National Scholarship Portal (NSP) and scholarships might be dispensed throughout the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) mode.
Scholarships are awarded to scholars who have secured no longer less than 50 in keeping with cent marks within the previous final exam.
The scholars will have to be studying in govt schools, institutes or recognised non-public schools and institutes.
The function of the pre-matric scholarship scheme is to inspire parents from minority communities to send their children (from Class I to X) to school, lighten their financial burden on college schooling and maintain their efforts to reinforce their children to complete college schooling, the commentary stated.
