COIMBATORE: Close at the heels of the clampdown on activists opposing the Salem–Chennai eight-lane green corridor mission, two citizens of Chinniyampalayam and Irugur within the town had been arrested on Tuesday for opposing land acquisition for growth of the Coimbatore International Airport. Police charged them with ‘promulgating enmity between two groups.’ The two had allegedly disbursed pamphlets to fellow citizens urging them to call for upper compensation from the government for their lands.
The arrested had been known as CK Jayaprakash, 43, of Chinniyampalayam, and Senthil alias Senthilraj, 55, of Irugur.
Police mentioned Jayaprakash is the functionary of BJP. But Jayaprakash and Senthilraj disbursed pamphlets at Chinniyampalayam urging citizens to protest the government to get Rs 3,000 in step with sqft for house sites.
Recalling the deaths of 13 folks all the way through the anti-Sterlite protests, the pamphlet mentions that the folk of Tuticorin continue to protest regardless of lack of lives. Similarly, citizens of Chinniyampalayam should combat for upper compensation, the pamphlet mentioned.
Police registered a case in opposition to the duo in keeping with the criticism and arrested them on early Tuesday morning. They had been remanded in judicial custody.
