MUMBAI: In a transfer to make review process clear and student-friendly, Mumbai University might soon give copies of answersheets to all students online, free-of-cost, after their effects are introduced. The university is also planning to allow academics to assess papers online remotely, anytime, even when they are vacationing.
Currently, photocopies of answersheets are given to only students who seek them if they don't seem to be glad with their marks, at a cost of Rs 50 according to paper. Students can then go for re-valuation in their paper in accordance with the photocopies. Students can also seek both photocopy as well as re-valuation. "Now, we are planning to give copies of answersheets on individual student login on an experimental basis. The answersheets are anyway scanned and available online for the assessment. It may not be difficult to make the assessed papers available online. The university is taking efforts to minimise inconvenience for students and to bring in more transparency," mentioned vice-chancellor Suhas Pednekar.
The transfer will streamline the review process and will dispel uncertainties, if any, that scholars have over the standard of review, mentioned a essential. He added that it will build up responsibility of academics too. Another essential, then again, mentioned that the transfer could lead to extra students looking for re-valuation.
For permitting academics to assess papers online from anywhere and anytime, the university is most probably so as to add security features in the present device. Doing this, despite the fact that, might take extra time.
Among other reforms (see box), the college may also start giving online provisional marksheets to students. A cell utility to help students with examination schedules, solution sheets, circulars, effects is also in the pipeline in the present instructional consultation. Pre-enrollment online registration which is a compulsory step for undergraduate courses, might be made obligatory for postgraduate students too from the next 12 months.
Meanwhile, over 46% of the 4.18 lakh students who took their examination in Summer 2018, are still watching for their effects. Though result of 151 assessments, together with major ones akin to B Com, BA, B Sc and BMS are already introduced, result of 339 other assessments are pending. Close to two lakh students who took those assessments are still waiting for the effects to be introduced affecting their career/upper education plans.
Director (examinations and review), Arjun Ghatule, mentioned that lots of the pending effects are of scholars pursuing postgraduate and distance education programmes.
