LONDON: Serena Williams is combating as a lot for her own legacy as she's for moms, especially those who're running. The 36-year-old powerhouse said that on Centre Court on Saturday, and reiterated it within the press room later. The American won't have had that extra step or shot to counter the fast-moving German Angelique Kerber within the Wimbledon final, however said she was once doing her all to get there.

"I like to tell all moms that I had such a long struggle to come back, and that it was really difficult," she pointed out. "I feel if I can do it, they can do it too. I'm just that person, that vessel, that's saying, 'you can be whatever you want to be'. I feel like there's no pressure to go back to work because having a child is a full-time job. But to those who want to go back, I want to say, 'you can do it, you can really do it'."
Williams, who made a Grand Slam final just 13 fits into her comeback from a troublesome pregnancy, 10 months after giving start to daughter Alexis Olympia, said making the name round at SW19 was once an 'alternative'. "I didn't know a couple of months ago where I was, where I would be, how I would do, how I would be able to come back. It was such a long way to see light at the end of the road," she explained. "These two weeks have shown me that I can compete, that I can compete for the long run in a Grand Slam. I can be a contender to win Grand Slams."
"I want to work for the future, things that I want to do, try and execute that. These two weeks were so mental for me. I won matches, but I was really mentally fighting for literally every match. I did the best that I could every match that I played. I feel like I'm taking steps in the right direction. I took a giant step at Wimbledon. But my journey has just begun."
