‘PM should concede unemployment is up or EPFO data faulty’

NEW DELHI: The Congress tried to show the tables on Prime Minister Narendra Modi through taking the similar dig at the ruling executive that UPA II was subjected to in June 2013.

With the rupee falling steeply and touching its lowest ranges yet, Congress spokesperson Manish Tewari on Friday mentioned, “In 2013, PM Modi mentioned there’s a contest between Congress and rupee over who will fall lower. Today the rupee is trading at Rs 69.1 to a dollar. It seems the competition is now between BJP and rupee.”

Tewari also drew on exterior affairs minister Sushma Swaraj’s tweet from the similar duration, through which she mentioned the rupee had lost its price and the Prime Minister — Manmohan Singh at the time — his place. Tweets through the PM and exterior affairs minister, Tewari mentioned, looked as if it would apply squarely to the present-day BJP executive.

Congress also sought to nook the federal government over its claims of creating 70 lakh jobs in 2017-18. Referring to the revised EPFO data for the fiscal yr 2017-18, Tewari mentioned, “Revised EPFO data shows between September and March 2017-18, EPFO enrolments fell through 12.58% from 39.35 lakh to 34.40 lakh. PM Modi will have to either concede unemployment has larger, or settle for the knowledge he referred to was wrong”.
