BENGALURU: Deputy leader minister G Parameshwara on Monday mentioned all Bengaluru public representatives favour a separate Act to expand the state capital. He hinted at shelving the previous leader secretary BS Patil-led committee’s advice to divide Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP).
After a five-hour meeting with Congress, BJP and JD (S) MLAs, MLCs and MPs representing Bengaluru, Bengaluru development minister Parameshwara mentioned: “There is a consensus and suggestion among legislators to have a new regulation for the BBMP. The Palike comes below the Municipalities Act (Karnataka Town and Country Planning Act). The new regulation will be an extension of this, and we’ll introduce it on the earliest.”
Parameshwara mentioned BBMP has been given Rs 10,000-crore grant, along with what’s been set aside for the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation and the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board. “This investment is to expand the town’s infrastructure,” he mentioned.
Questions raised over why Bengaluru has stagnated
Issue of Street Dogs, Land Mafia Discussed At Meet
Asked in regards to the BS Patil committee’s suggestion that the Palike be divided into 5 companies, he mentioned, “We’re bringing a new regulation for BBMP. We’ll talk about the department later.”
