NEW DELHI: Defence minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Tuesday stated the NDA govt had initiated steps to reform the Army in a deliberate method, while additionally taking a slew of measures to support the working prerequisites, salaries and pensions of all militia staff.

“Major reforms include optimisation of the Signals institutions, restructuring of repair echelons, redeployment of ordnance echelons, better utilisation of supply and delivery echelons, but even so closure of army farms and Army postal institutions in peace locations,” she stated.
Steps also are being taken against improving standards for recruitment of clerical workforce and drivers within the Army and bettering the efficiency of the NCC. “All this restructuring is aimed at improving the battle capacity of the Army,” she stated.
“The govt took a choice to enforce ‘One Rank, One Pension’ for defence staff in 2015 and promised to pay arrears in four instalments. I can say that every one OROP arrears were cleared with over Rs 10,788 crore being spent. Over 65.81 lakh defence pensioners have benefited from this,” she stated
