India, Pakistan foreign ministers to meet on sidelines of UNGA: MEA

NEW DELHI: India on Thursday stated it has agreed to Pakistan's request for a meeting of the foreign ministers of the two countries at the sidelines of the UNGA in New York.

However, this assembly does not indicate any exchange in our coverage against Pakistan and does not imply resumption of discussion, the ministry of external affairs clarified.

Talking to journalists on Thursday, Raveesh Kumar, spokesperson, ministry of external affairs stated that a assembly between the two foreign ministers will happen at the sidelines of the UNGA at a mutually convenient date and time.

"We have not finalised the agenda yet, we have just agreed for the meeting," he stated.

Talking concerning the opening of Kartarpur corridor, Kumar stated that there was no professional conversation from Pakistani government even after so many years in this, adding that Swaraj will carry this issue in her assembly with her Pakistani counterpart at the sidelines of UNGA.

However, India has reiterated its stand on Saarc summit.

Earlier, Pakistan's Prime Minister Imran Khan had written a letter to PM Narendra Modi + , searching for to re-start the bilateral talks on key issues "challenging the relationship" together with on terrorism and Kashmir.


In the letter dated September 14, the cricketer-turned-politician proposed a meeting between foreign minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi and his Indian counterpart Sushma Swaraj at the sidelines of the UNGA in New York this month.


Pakistan and India have an "undeniably challenging relationship", he stated, while responding to Modi's letter to him on August 18.


In the letter to Khan + , PM Modi had conveyed India's dedication to pursue "meaningful" and "constructive" engagement with Pakistan and emphasising the wish to work for a terror-free South Asia.


Pakistan's ministry of foreign affairs' spokesperson Mohammad Faisal stated on Twitter: "PM (Imran Khan) has responded to PM Modi, in a positive spirit, reciprocating his sentiments. Let's talk and resolve all issues. We await formal response from India".
