JD(U) refuses to support demand of reservation for upper castes

PATNA: Bihar's ruling JD(U) on Sunday refused to improve the rising demand of reservation for poor among upper castes.

"As per the existing provisions in the Constitution, the basis of reservation is social and education backwardness. Unless the Constitution is amended, the reservation will be provided only to socially and educationally backwards. As the constitutional provisions stand today, reservation cannot be extended to the upper castes," JD(U) nationwide normal secretary (organisation) RCP Singh informed reporters after the birthday celebration's state government frame meet right here on Sunday.

Singh, on the other hand, hastened to add that his birthday celebration chief and Bihar leader minister Nitish Kumar has introduced a series of schemes for construction of individuals of upper castes within the state.

"Most of the schemes of Nitish Kumar's government are meant for the members of all castes, including those hailing from the upper castes. Be it the chief minister cycle scheme, school uniform scheme or the student credit card scheme- all these schemes are meant for the members of all castes. Moreover, all schemes being undertaken under the Saat Nischay programme are meant for all castes," Singh, who is regarded as no-2 within the JD(U) after Nitish, said. Responding to a query on seat-sharing some of the NDA partners, Singh said the seat sharing with the BJP used to be within the ultimate degree and it would be officially announced quickly through the highest leaders.


Flanked through the birthday celebration's stat president Bashishtha Narain Singh and a number of other spokespersons, Singh additionally said that JD(U) would give precedence to early life in price tag distribution for the impending normal elections.

"We will soon have a vibrant organisation in all 8,285 panchayats in the state," Singh said.
