Govt appoints chief of child rights body

NEW DELHI: National Commission for Protection of Child Rights has got a new leader with the appointments committee of the cabinet appointing Priyank Kanoongo to the post for a duration of three years. Kanoongo has been member of the fee from November 2015 and his tenure as member ends next week.


The ministry of ladies and kid development confirmed that orders had been issued. A graduate in science, Kanoongo comes from MP and was assigned to paintings on schooling when he was appointed member as he had worked on re-integration of out of school children with mainstream schooling. Kanoongo has been associated with the paintings and ideology of RSS and has also supported the paintings of BJP in his house state. During his tenure as member of NCPCR his center of attention has been on schooling.


The post of chairperson fell vacant ultimate month after Stuti Kacker's tenure ended on September 16. Kanoongo would be the fifth NCPCR leader because the fee was formed. Renowned kid rights acitivist Shanta Sinha was appointed the chairperson in 2007 and then in 2010. After that UPA appointed former leader secretary of Rajasthan, Kushal Singh to the post. After her, the fee remained headless for almost a yr prior to Stuti Narain Kackerwas appointed.
