MJ Akbar should resign if charges are true: Ramdas Athawale

RANCHI: Minister of state for Social Justice and Empowerment, Ramdas Athawale on Friday mentioned that MJ Akbar, a co-minister in the NDA government in Centre and a minister of state for external affairs will have to surrender if charges of sexual harassment against him are discovered to be true.

Akbar, an editor grew to become politician, is most likely the primary political figure to land in the middle of a raging controversy ever since India’s own model of #MeToo broke on social media couple of weeks back. So far, kind of close to a dozen women journalists have levelled allegations against Akbar on how they had been sexually harassment in some or the other way.

Akbar is recently in Nigeria on an reliable commute.

“But it’s a serious factor as no one has the correct to violate any girl’s modesty. Likewise, MJ Akbar too isn’t above regulation of this land. Akbar is recently out of nation (Nigeria) and his celebration will take a call after taking into word what he has to say on it first. However, he will have to surrender if the complaint is correct,” Athawale mentioned.

The minister, however, wondered at the timing of such allegations of sexual harassment.

“I don’t understand why these are being raked up now after such a lot of years and in what cases. Still, once a complaint is made, a thorough and independent probe will have to be carried out and motion will have to be taken against the culprits,” he mentioned.

Yesterday, Union minister Smriti Irani in response to a an identical query had stated that it used to be up to Akbar to factor a statement at the charges.
