31,000 sq m area freed of encroachment in Katargam

Surat: Nearly 30,981 sq.m area used to be freed of encroachment in a big power undertaken in Katargam zone on Wednesday.

Around 690 hutments that had encroached the space in Patelwadi in Lal Darwaja locality have been razed amid protest through a Congress councillor and his supporter. Police, alternatively, detained them and the razing used to be finished.


The land encroached used to be for use to make bigger a water tank and notices had been issued to the hutment dwellers two times prior to now . The 461 families residing there were given an alternative accomodation through draw gadget at Kosad. In May 2018, they sought extra time and then requested to shift after Diwali. However, some of them wanted time until March 2019 to vacate their properties.


Ten days ago, a final understand used to be issued to them to shift to Kosad. However, on Wednesday morning when Surat Municipal Corporation(SMC) encroachment elimination groups went there with cars, Congress councillor Dinesh Kachhadia sat on dharna and attempted to stop the paintings.


DM Patel, zonal leader, Katargam Zone mentioned, “We have provided trade housing to eligible people and granted their request for postponement of razing two times. We are also are supporting them in moving.”
