KOLKATA: The town may run trams only to keep its heritage intact but New Town plans to start out services in full throttle.

State delivery and setting minister Suvendu Adhikari on Wednesday mentioned: “Nabadiganta Industrial Township Authority and Hidco are making ready a feasibility file for running tram services within the township.”



Adhikari added that trams will proceed to run in Kolkata more as a heritage image for tourism and less for day by day commuting. “We needed to phase out some routes because of the construction of Metro corridors and objection from town traffic police. In long run, trams may well be withdrawn from a couple of more routes for smoother motion of traffic,” he mentioned.


According to the minister, trams can run in new areas like New Town, the place roads are congestion-free and a tram trip can be fun. Adhikari, alternatively, clarified that since tram is a metropolitan mode of delivery, it cannot be taken to districts. At present, only 85 trams are plying within the town. The remainder of the fleet is parked idle at different depots.


Adhikari additionally mentioned the non-commuting experiment with tram used to be a good fortune. The eating place in a tram is one such instance. It is visited by means of a lot of celebrities from town and outdoor.
