Pakistan hails India's move to send 2 ministers for Kartarpur corridor's groundbreaking ceremony

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Sunday welcomed India's resolution to send its two Union ministers to wait the groundbreaking rite of the Kartarpur hall next week, terming it a "positive response".

Kartarpur Sahib in Pakistan is positioned around the river Ravi, about four kilometres from the Dera Baba Nanak shrine in Punjab's Gurdaspur district. It used to be established via the Sikh Guru in 1522. The first Gurdwara, Gurdwara Kartarpur Sahib, used to be constructed here, where Guru Nanak Dev is claimed to have died.

Both India and Pakistan have introduced that stretches could be evolved of their respective spaces, linking Dera Baba Nanak in Punjab's Gurdaspur district with the Gurdwara Darbar Sahib in Pakistan.

Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi welcomed India's resolution to send Union ministers Harsimrat Kaur Badal and Hardeep Singh Puri, Radio Pakistan reported.


Qureshi termed India's resolution as a "positive response to Pakistan's move", it said.

"India has responded well to Pakistan's initiative in its bid to bring the Sikh community closer," he instructed the Associated Press of Pakistan throughout his seek advice from to the stall of Indian High Commission on the Pakistan Foreign Office Women's Association charity bazar here.

India's High Commissioner to Pakistan Ajay Bisaria received Foreign Minister Qureshi on the stall.

Qureshi said Pakistan has won the hearts of hundreds of thousands of Sikhs with a single however significant step and expressed self belief that the Kartarpur hall would draw in participants of the Sikh neighborhood to Pakistan from around the globe including the United States and the United Kingdom.

He said that the Sikh neighborhood shall be greeted here amid sentiments of affection and would take back certain symbol about Pakistan and its people.

On Saturday, Qureshi extended a call for participation to External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh and state minister Navjot Singh Sidhu to wait the rite at Kartarpur on November 28.

Swaraj thanked him for the invite and said that India will send Union ministers Harsimrat Kaur Badal and Hardeep Singh Puri to Pakistan next week to wait the groundbreaking rite of the Kartarpur hall.


Amarinder declined Pakistan's invite whilst Sidhu accepted the request with "with unalloyed joy".


The hall, once constructed, will give Indian pilgrims easy access to the shrine.


Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan will inaugurate the groundbreaking rite of the hall at the Pakistani aspect on November 28.
