Third phase of panchayat polls underway in J&K

SRINAGAR: Voting for the third section of the Jammu and Kashmir panchayat elections is underway.

The polling started at 8 am in 2,773 polling stations, together with 918 in Kashmir division and 1,855 in Jammu division, officials mentioned.

The voting would end at 2 pm, they mentioned.

The officials mentioned 727 polling stations have been classified as hypersensitive, together with 493 in Kashmir division and 234 in Jammu division, for the third section.

They mentioned five,239 candidates are within the fray for 358 sarpanch and 1,652 panch seats.

Ninety six sarpanchs and 1,437 panchs have been elected unopposed in this section, they added.

The officials mentioned an voters of four,23,592 is eligible for voting for sarpanch constituencies while 2,70,668 for panch constituencies.


They mentioned all arrangements, together with security similar, have been put in position for smooth habits of the polls.


The nine-phased elections, being carried out at the non-party basis, started on November 17.


In the primary section of the polls, 74.1 per cent polling was recorded across J-Ok, together with 64.five per cent in Kashmir division and 79.four per cent in Jammu division.


In the second one section hung on November 20, total 71.1 per cent polling was witnessed across the state with 80.four per cent in Jammu division and 52.2 per cent in Kashmir division.
