MOHALI: Burglars struck at a house in Phase X and fled with gold adorns worth round 1.10 lakh, police mentioned on Saturday.
Rani Kaur, the house owner, mentioned she had long gone to Chandigarh for some work along with her family and when she returned, she discovered the lock damaged. She mentioned the thieves had taken away two gold rings and different jewellery pieces from lockers in her bedrooms. Police mentioned no CCTV cameras had been installed on the house. Cops mentioned they are seeking to get footage from CCTV cameras installed close to the house.
Police registered a case towards unknown individuals below Sections 454 (house-trespass after preparation for harm, attack or wrongful restraint) and 380 (robbery in dwelling house) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) on the Phase XI police station.
There has been a spurt in thefts in Mohali district. On December 27, unidentified miscreants stole readymade clothes worth Rs 20 lakh from a shop in Lohgarh, Zirakpur. On December 20, thieves stole gold, diamond, silver jewellery and garments worth round Rs 30 lakh from a house in New Sunny Enclave, Kharar. On December 3, unidentified miscreants targeted a house in Sector 69 and fled with money and gold adorns worth greater than Rs 10 lakh. On November 11, burglars targeted a house in Guru Nanak Enclave, Dhakoli, and decamped with money and gold adorns worth round Rs 3.50 lakh.
