Visible policing for peaceful New Year celebrations

PUNE: Over 6,000 policemen will center of attention on “visible policing” to maintain regulation and order all through the New Year celebrations.

Commissioner of Police (CP), Pune, Ok Venkatesham on Saturday informed newspersons, “There can be two sorts of arrangements on the New Year Eve — extensive checking of vehicles at nakabandi points and in depth use of CCTV cameras. We will make just right use of frame cameras, too.”

Venkatesham said, “We have 240 breath analysers, together with 100 received from the Pune Municipal Corporation, for checking inebriated driving on roads. We have introduced a power and prosecuted over 500 motorists for inebriated driving as there must be no fatal or critical injuries on December 31.”


He instructed other people not to create problems for others while ushering within the New Year and warned them towards ingesting and driving vehicles for their own protection and that of others.


People should seek police permission to play loudspeakers at events and functions.


He said the site visitors police had introduced the power towards two-wheeler riders no longer dressed in helmets and penalised the rule of thumb violators.


He declined to specify if the power can be intensified.
