Man held for cheating shareholders of private firm

PUNE: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the town police on Friday arrested a man for allegedly duping some shareholders of a company of Rs3.62 crore via opening pretend bank accounts in their names and shifting their repayment quantity given in lieu of stocks after the company was once delisted.
A staff headed via deputy commissioner of police (EOW) Jyoti Priya Singh and senior inspector Mohan Jadhav arrested Sonu Nirmal Agarwal (38), a resident of Digha in Navi Mumbai. Wakad resident Nishant Shrivastava lodged a grievance towards him with the Bund Garden police. A source stated police suspected that Agarwal was once only a frontman and there may well be others involved within the crime.

The company delisted itself from the stock marketplace, earlier this year and made up our minds to return the cash — Rs4,000 per proportion as repayment — to the shareholders. The company hired products and services of a finance company to return the cash, the police stated.

The officials of the finance company discovered that one of the vital shareholders had kicked the bucket, while residential addresses of some had changed. Some staff of the finance company concept that these other folks would never knock on the doors of the company to demand cash towards their stocks.

In July, bank accounts have been opened within the names of 18 such shareholders, either deceased or “missing”, in a non-public bank. The staff of the finance company, including Agarwal, submitted pretend identity proofs to open the bank accounts. Following this, they transferred the share amounts to these accounts.

A couple of shareholders missing from “their” addresses approached the company officials in July and August with the original proportion certificates. The company assessed their claims and located that the volume was once already transferred to their accounts.

When the shareholders claimed that they'd not won the cash, the company investigated and located the misappropriation. Following this, Shrivastava lodged a grievance with the police.
