MUMBAI: A 53-year-old man was arrested on Thursday morning from his Dahisar home on charges of murdering his ill 80-year-old mom, with whom he used to have common fights, on his third attempt on her existence through the previous night time.
Police said Yogesh Shenoy first of all tried to overdose Lalita on napping capsules, then tried smothering her, and when she survived, he finally slit her throat. They were at loggerheads for a few years over a number of problems, the latest being her emerging scientific expenses. Tired in their bickering, Yogesh's spouse abandoned him in 2011. His father and brother are not more, so there was no different family member to seem after Lalita. "Yogesh's marriage lasted only four years. The couple does not have kids," said a police officer. A category X passout, Yogesh was hired with a personal corporate.
After some other altercation on Wednesday, Yogesh started plotting bumping off his mom. He purchased two packets of 15 napping capsules every, beaten them and combined the powder in a pitcher of milk and offered it to his mom prior to she went to mattress. He waited for a few hours for her to overdose on the capsules, said the police. "Around 1.30am, he got up to check on his mother. He found that she was breathing. Frustrated, he tried to smother her with a pillow, but she kept struggling and did not succumb," said a police officer.
Eventually, he picked up a paper cutter and slit her throat around 2.30am, coated the frame with a bedsheet and went off to sleep, said the police.
In the morning, some neighbours knowledgeable the police that there was shouting and sounds of battle coming from Shenoy's space at night time. When the police landed up at Shenoy's door around nine.30am, he was still napping. The police found Lalita's frame in a pool of blood on the mattress. "Yogesh has been taken into custody and charged under section 302 of IPC for murder," said senior inspector Pandit Thackeray, MHB Colony police. Lalita's frame was despatched for an post-mortem.
