CHANDIGARH: Vehicles aren't allowed to ply on 10 roads from 10pm until 2am in the city on Monday in a choice supposed to check hooliganism and prevent visitors jams on New Year’s Eve.
A police advisory said, “In the pastime of safety and security of the general public in addition to peaceful celebrations of New Year, interior market roads of sectors 7, 9, 10, 11, 17 and 22, the road in front of Leisure Valley, Sector 10, roads from Aroma light level to small chowk close to Sector 22 dispensary and around Elante mall, Industrial Area, Phase I, will probably be vehicle-free zone from 10 pm until 2 am.”
Residents residing in the neighborhood of these roads will have to lift a valid id card and place of abode evidence to reach their homes, police said. The advisory directed public to make personal parking preparations close to these stretches.
Police would habits a different force in opposition to drunken riding on New Year’s Eve. Strict criminal action could be taken in opposition to the ones riding inebriated. Vehicles of such drivers could be impounded and riding licences really helpful for suspension.
