Triple talaq bill: Owaisi for select panel study

HYDERABAD: AIMIM president and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi said the triple talaq invoice must be referred to a make a choice committee whilst he termed the invoice tyrannical, pointing out that how it violated article 21 of the Constitution.

Speaking on a discussion on immediate triple talaq in the Lok Sabha on Thursday, he said the government had no longer consulted any stakeholder. “Leave on my own those opposing it, those who are for it have also no longer been consulted,” he said, urging LS speaker Sumitra Mahajan to make use of her discretionary powers and refer the invoice to the make a choice committee. He wants the panel to return back with good proposals inside 15 days.

Owaisi puzzled as to why the government was thinking about criminalising triple talaq. “This is one thing that they wish to use in opposition to us,” he said on how the Muslim group would be affected.

“When homosexuality has been decriminalised and adultery too has been decriminalised, why does the government assume it must criminalise triple talaq,” he wondered. He said there was no basis for the triple talaq invoice. “Is there any majority judgment in the Supreme Court that the government can rely on to say that that is the foundation for the invoice,” he sought to know. Owaisi also wondered the three-year prison for the one who proclaims triple talaq and puzzled if the person is installed jail, who would pay subsistence allowance to the lady. The MIM chief also made a reference to ladies who had been abandoned by means of their husbands. “

Think of the 20 lakh such women affected. Bring a legislation to offer protection to them,” he recommended. The TRS also adversarial the invoice. Party floor chief AP Jithender Reddy described the invoice ‘misconceived’ and entirely ‘arbitrary’.
