Bike-borne men rob Thane woman of cash and valuables

PUNE: Two men riding a motorcycle snatched a girl’s her purse containing two gold rings, a smartphone and a few money, in combination price Rs35,000.

The incident came about outside the gate of Nivedita Garden Terrace, close to Anandpur Charitable Trust, off Salunkhe Vihar-NIBM Link Road, round 6.45pm on Saturday.

Nazia Shafique Noori (36), a resident of Thane, has registered an FIR against the robbers on the Kondhwa police station on Sunday.

Nazia was once visiting her brother in Pune. She had come out for a night stroll, on Saturday, when the incident came about.

“Two men on a two-wheeler rode from in the back of her. The pillion rider snatched her purse because the duo sped away. The woman raised an alarm, however the entirety came about so temporarily that she could not give a description of the robbers,” sub-inspector Santosh Shinde said.


“A few passers-by witnessed the incident, however they too failed to note any details. Nazia registered an FIR under sections 392 (robbery) and 34 (commonplace purpose) of the Indian Penal Code,” Shinde said.


“The duo looked as if it would have snatched Nazia’s purse at random. There isn't any evidence to suggest this was once deliberate. We are working on clues and hope to arrest the robbers soon,” he added.


“We are checking the CCTV cameras installed at the development and business establishments round to trace the robbers’ escape path. We hope to determine their id and observe down their car’s registration quantity,” senior inspector Anil Patil said.


Police said the robbers neither wore helmets nor a masks to hide their id. One witness informed police that the robbers rode an off-white motorcycle and that the pillion rider wore a white shirt. The robbers are believed to be between 20 and 25 years outdated.
