CHENNAI: Income tax investigation wing officers on Thursday started searches at some chains of eating places -- Saravana Bhavan, Grand Sweets and Snacks, Anjappar and Hot Breads -- in Chennai and suburban spaces for the alleged evasion of taxes.
“We were watching those chains of eating places for the previous few months. We did a survey based on the returns they filed with the income tax department. We discovered that their income did not match with the tax paid and wanted to check their accounts and business. We started searches on 32 premises this morning," stated a senior investigation wing reputable.
The searches are prone to proceed till Friday evening. Details of money and paperwork seized could be identified best later.
