NEW DELHI: Organised theft of energy in the capital for charging of e-rickshaws has assumed severe proportions with discom assets hanging the annual losses because of it at just about Rs 150 crore.
There are three energy distribution firms - BYPL and BRPL of BSES and Tata Power Delhi Dsitribution - that supply electricity to Delhi. As according to estimates, there are over 1 lakh e-rickshaws plying on town roads and simplest one-fourth of them are registered, despite a subsidy scheme through the government.
Experts say the loss of right kind charging amenities has led to organised rackets of energy theft in portions of Delhi, especially in spaces with regards to metro stations. On a median, an e-rickshaw consumes 7-10 units according to day. This involves about 2,500-3,600 units according to e-rickshaw according to annum.
