India cuts duty on crude, refined palm oil imported from ASEAN

NEW DELHI: The govt has lower import tasks on crude and subtle palm oil efficient Tuesday to comply with preferential trade pacts with Southeast Asian international locations.

The import responsibility on crude palm oil, originating from Malaysia, Indonesia and other individuals of Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN) has been lower to 40 per cent from 44 per cent, the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) stated in a notification.


The responsibility on import of subtle palm oil has been lowered to 45 per cent from 54 per cent, whether it is imported from Malaysia, and to 50 per cent, whether it is imported from individuals of the ASEAN, which contains Indonesia.


While India is the most important importer of palm oil, Indonesia is a major manufacturer of fit for human consumption oils, in particular palm, followed via Malaysia. Palm oil accounts for bulk of the entire fit for human consumption oils imported yearly.


The tasks were lower, CBIC stated "to provide deeper tariff concessions in respect of specified goods" when imported from ASEAN under the India-ASEAN Free Trade Agreement and Malaysia under the India-Malaysia Comprehensive Economic Cooperation Agreement (IMCECA).


The responsibility cuts are efficient from January 1, 2019.
