Last day of year lights up lives of 11 tribals

KALYAN: The remaining day of 2018 brought a brand new morning time for 11 visually challenged other people, together with 3 centenarians. On Monday, they were given their imaginative and prescient again after an NGO not too long ago carried out surgeries to restore their eyesight.
Besides the 3 centenarians, the rest 8 are 65 years outdated and above. All the patients are tribals and, because of poverty, may no longer get their cataract operations finished on time.

The surgeries have been carried out at Central Hospital in Ulhasnagar. The pleasure on the faces of the patients at regaining their eyesight was once a heart-warming sight.

The surgeries have been facilitated through the NGO run by way of Sakib Gore. Gore, a Badlapur resident, who has been running for the visually challenged for the past 23 years, stated he has dispensed over 8 lakh spectacles to the needy from villages in Murbad, Shahapur and Kalyan talukas.

Gore stated his NGO has enabled operations for nine lakh other people. Of those, he has paid from his pocket for 43,000 surgeries, he stated.

Talking to TOI, Avdi Mengal, 105, stated, "I lost my eyesight around 8-10 years ago, but I will be now able to see my grandchildren again."

Kashibai, 102, stated, "As we are very poor, we could not manage to get our cataract surgeries done and had to live in the dark for many years. We have now got our vision back thanks to Gore."
