Mumbai monorail staff warn of stopping work

MUMBAI: Employees of monorail have threatened to stop work over “non-payment of salary but even so anxiety over future”. However, the company which recently runs the shipping frame, MMRDA, mentioned it has resolved workers’ grievances they usually “will report to work and there can be no affect on services and products”.

Currently, monorail runs alongside the 8km stretch between Chembur and Wadala. Until December 14, the operations have been handled through Larson & Tourbo-Scomi Engineering and workers have been part of underneath this company. MMRDA took over operations from December 14, alleging that Scomi had did not run services and products successfully and had not on time the hole of the second one section of the monorail—Wadala to Jacob Circle—which used to be slated to open through March-April this year.

Sources mentioned that monorail workers have asked MMRDA to clarify issues referring to salary, increment, gratuity and other human resources-related issues.

In a letter to the management, a duplicate of which TOI has, workers have mentioned: “We have worked hard in antagonistic conditions to make sure that Mumbai monorail passenger service isn't affected and MMRDA’s name is held prime.” The workers have given the management a closing date until this month.

MMRDA spokesperson Dilip Kawathkar mentioned, “All issues were sorted out and employee will file on duty.” Monorail’s leader working officer DLN Murthy too mentioned the salary can be credited on January 10.
