Thane: An injured sub-adult female Nilgai or blue bull that stumbled into the human habitat in Shahapur's Lahe village, was once rescued by the flora and fauna rescuers from the NGO Resqink Association for Wildlife Welfare (RAWW) and the forest department on Tuesday. Around midday, officers from the forest department gained a call from some locals concerning the animal that was once limping about near the defunct petrol pump in the area.
The forest officers in an instant rushed to the spot and known as RAWW for his or her help in the rescue.
“The locals saw the Nilgai in the morning but idea it was once a cow. As human activity larger later around midday, the animal started getting aggressiveand working about. It was once then that they realised that it was once a wild animal and known as the officers,” said Pawan Sharma, Thane's honorary flora and fauna warden and founder of RAWW.
As soon as the workforce of 15 forest officers and NGO volunteers were given there, they first started strategically guiding the Nilgai, which is safe by the schedule-IV of the Wildlife Protection Act, in a secluded part of the defunct petrol pump in the area.
“She was once traumatized as well as bodily injured. The native vet gave her some first support, and then we strategically guided her right into a cage and took her to the Sanjay Gandhi National Park (SGNP) for additional treatment. It took us about four hours to get the wild herbivore sparsely back without including to the trauma she was once going through on account of the new surroundings and high human activity,” added Pawar.
“Even although the Nilgai is a sub-adult, she is reasonably large and we needed to be sure that she didn't panic and run against the highway or the barbed wire fencing within reach,” he said.
