PMC push in 11th hr to meet property tax target

PUNE: The civic body has intensified its property tax collection pressure to meet the 2018-19 revenue target of Rs1,619.91 crore with handiest two months left for the monetary 12 months to end.

The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) may push the tax collection past the Rs1,000-crore mark till the closing week of January, but remains to be Rs619.91 crore short of the target.

While presenting the draft civic price range (2019-20) just lately, municipal commissioner Saurabh Rao had hinted at stricter measures to spice up tax recovery. He has now told his officers to go all out to meet the tax collection target.


Among the major steps the management has deliberate in the next two months are deployment of separate groups for every zone, id of houses with top dues and enjoying of musical band outside buildings with arrears to get well the pending taxes.

Property tax department officers stated sealing of houses with top tax dues has been a concern for the reason that starting of January.


A senior legitimate stated the department has since January 1 sealed over 490 houses, as their owners did not clear the tax arrears. After dogged follow-ups, the civic officers recovered Rs31.55 crore from the owners of the sealed houses till January 25.


PMC joint commissioner and head of the property tax department Vilas Kanade stated, “The houses that have been sealed are positioned in every single place town and are of every kind, including commercial and private. The management’s goal of sealing such institutions is to get well tax dues. Our staffers are visiting at least 250 houses a day to get well the dues. We hope that tax recovery will building up in the next two months”.


Sources in the management stated property tax, with the exception of GST and different taxes, used to be a significant source of source of revenue for the municipal company. It contributes about 25-30% of the civic body’s annual source of revenue.
