Police arrest liquor mafioso in Patna City

PATNA: Notorious liquor mafioso Jayant Rai (40) was once arrested from Chowk police station house in Patna City on Sunday night. Patna SSP Manu Maharaaj said 24 cases had been registered towards Rai in Patna and Vaishali districts. He was once absconding.

Police sources said Rai hails from Bidupur in Vaishali. Maharaaj said he had nexus with liquor mafia in Haryana and used to smuggle the contraband from there.

Sources said after prohibition in Bihar, Rai made massive cash and amassed houses in Patna and Vaishali. He also bought many vehicles.

Four others had been arrested from JP Setu with 85 bottles of India-made international liquor (IMFL) Sunday night. They had been recognized as Brajesh Rai, Vicky Pandey, Bittu Kumar and Chandan Kumar — all of their early 20s and citizens of Sonepur. Digha SHO Raghunath Prasad said they had been arrested all over vehicle-checking power.

Meanwhile, Patna district administration destroyed 6,666 litres of IMFL on Monday. The liquor bottles had been overwhelmed via earthmovers within the presence of Patna district magistrate Kumar Ravi.
