Road rage case: Two held for assaulting advocate

NAVI MUMBAI: Koparkhairane police have arrested two men for assaulting a 26-year-old advocate. The two, who were in an inebriated situation, hit him with a stone when he tried to rescue a motorist being crushed up by them.

The incident happened round 12.50am on December 29 when the advocate was passing by on his motorcycle near Canara Bank in sector 1, Koparkhairane.

The arrested duo has been identified as Sunil Shinde (38) and Sagar Kalantre (27), each dwelling in Koparkhairane. The FIR has been registered by advocate Shailesh Yadav, a resident of sector 20.

The accused were booked under IPC sections and also under the Mumbai Liquor Prohibition Act, 1998.


Senior inspector Suryakant Jagdale stated, “The duo picked up a fight with the motorist after their vehicles brushed each and every other. The complainant saw them beating up the motorist and intervened, however Shinde and Kalantre were visibly under the influence of alcohol and began abusing Yadav. Shinde hit Yadav on the head with a stone and he began bleeding. Kalantre picked up a stone and broke the rear windscreen of the victim’s Hyundai Accent automobile. The stone hit a lady seated on the rear seat.”


Jagdale stated an auto driving force stopped and he, too, tried to intervene, but the duo broke his auto’s windscreen too. Yadav then dialled 100 and informed the police keep an eye on room in regards to the incident. “Constables on evening patrol reached the spot and detained the 2 accused men who were in an inebriated state.”


The duo was then hauled up to the police station and arrested.
