Sachin's coach Ramakant Achrekar dies in Mumbai

NEW DELHI: Ramakant Achrekar, childhood coach of master blaster Sachin Tendulkar, died on Wednesday. Achrekar, 87, who is understood to shape Tendulkar's occupation, took his ultimate breath at his Shivaji Park place of abode in Dadar, Mumbai. The legendary coach were fighting old age-related diseases for the past few days.

Besides Tendulkar, he additionally coached some outstanding players in Vinod Kambli, Pravin Amre, Sameer Dighe and Balwinder Singh Sandhu.


"He (Archrekar Sir) is no more with us. He passed away this evening," his kinfolk Rashmi Dalvi advised PTI over phone.

Tendulkar used to be presented to Achrekar by means of his elder brother Ajit at Shivaji Park. Since then, the age-old guru-shishya members of the family began between Tendulkar and Achrekar.


Achrekar took Tendulkar to quite a lot of venues to get him sufficient practice. He used to reward him with vada pav for excellent efficiency.


"Sir didn't say well-played to me ever, (but) I knew (when) Sir has taken me to have bhelpuri or paani-puri, Sir is happy, I have finished something great at the box," Tendulkar had said ultimate year at an tournament whilst recalling Achrekar's contribution in making him the cricketer he became.


The famous cricket coach Achrekar is the recipient of prestigious awards in India. He used to be bestowed with country's fourth easiest civilian award - Padma Shri in 2010 and Dronacharya Award (for Outstanding Coaches in Sports and Games) in 1990.
