Shivamogga: A 3-year-old woman died and her eight-year-old brother had a providential escape when a haystack stuck fire in Shivamogga district’s Tirthahalli taluk on Saturday night.
Police stated Artha and her brother Dayananda had been enjoying a series of games — hide-and-seek, and building a mock residence with whatever they could lay their fingers on — before the haystack went up in flames in an coincidence within the taluk’s Mavinagadde village. Their oldsters Ramesh and Vijayalakshmi eke out a living as daily wage employees and had been away at the time of the tragedy.
According to police, Dayananda is going to an area faculty and Artha attended an anganwadi. On Saturday, the fogeys left for work within the morning. The children returned home by means of midday after taking part in Republic Day celebrations. For a while, they played with their grandmother, stated to be visually challenged.
Around 4pm, the siblings stepped out to play a game of hide-and-seek in a close-by paddy haystack. After a few rounds of the sport, they selected to play the build-a-house game. It necessarily comes to building a tiny safe haven and stuffing it with household items smuggled out from their place of dwelling. “When the woman had to enact preparation of tea, she by chance lit a fit that touched off a blaze. She died in mins as the haystack went up in flames,” a police officer stated.
Dayananda, who was infrequently a few toes away, was surprised to look the haystack devouring his sister, at the same time as he made efforts — in useless — to rescue her. Theirs is the one residence in a 500-metre radius. By the time the boy alerted villagers and oldsters, who had been away in a neighbouring village, it was too late to save lots of her, a police officer stated.
Police carried out a postmortem before delivering the woman’s frame to the family.
