KOLKATA: A lady used to be arrested for allegedly exchanging spuriously hallmarked adorns with unique gold jewellery at a major jewellery chain’s Salt Lake branch on Tuesday.
Police said, Shukla Paul, a resident of Duttabad, had first come to the Salt Lake HA block store on November 4 and exchanged over 40 grams of hallmarked gold bangles with a new gold chain value Rs 1.33 lakh. However, right through scrutiny, it used to be discovered that the adorns have been spuriously hallmarked and the chief of the shop lodged a complaint of dishonest in opposition to her.
On Tuesday, the lady again came to the shop seeking to paintings the similar ploy, but this time, the body of workers known the lady and passed her over to the police.
“We imagine the lady is a part of a racket engaged in fake hallmarking of impure gold adorns. We have taken her in custody and can question her further to get more main points,” said a senior officer of Bidhannagar south police station.
