Elderly flyers held with forex worth Rs 92 lakh at IGI

NEW DELHI: A male and a female passenger — aged round 70 years — had been arrested at the IGI airport once they had been stuck looking to smuggle out foreign currencies price nearly Rs 92 lakh. The foreign currencies, in Euros and Dirham, was found hid in the hand baggage of the accused, who had been headed to Dubai.

Customs officers said the incident came about on Friday night time with the passengers intercepted once they had been headed to board a flight EK 511 from Terminal-3. A detailed baggage and private seek was carried out for each passengers with foreign currencies price Rs 92 lakh found hid in the baggage.


“The bag was checked based on random profiling,” said a Customs professional.
