Dharwad: Karnataka University vice-chancellor Pramod Gai claimed that the college, which had a deficit of Rs eight crore when he took rate three-and-a-half years in the past, is now having a surplus of Rs 62 crore. He attributed this to environment friendly management of available funds.
Speaking to reporters here, Gai said the monetary condition of the college was precarious when he took over because the vice-chancellor and the pensioners were going through problem as they were not getting their pension since the past 8 months. The VC said soon after taking on he had taken steps to create a separate pension fund and ensure that all of the pensioners got the per 30 days pension on the remaining day of that individual month.
Gai said the government had now not permitted filling up of training and non-teaching posts within the college and this had hampered the work. To conquer the shortage of team of workers, the college is pressured to hire visitor lecturers and non-teaching team of workers on temporary basis. As many as 289 coaching posts and 813 non-teaching posts have fallen vacant since because of retirement, loss of life and resignation, he said.
The V-C explained that as in step with the government orders, the college had disbursed 700 laptops freed from cost to the SC/ST scholars who were doing PhD and final year PG Course. This year too, the college has positioned order for 500 laptops which can be disbursed to the students by means of the tip of March, he said.
For the benefit of the candidates, the KUD has began coaching for KSET and NET examinations. To encourage younger researchers, the college has created a research fund and has mobilised funds to the song of Rs 40 lakh. Under this project, younger researchers can be given monetary assistance up to Rs2 lakh for their research work. However, the research work must be based only on regional issues.
Under the Pavate-Cambridge Fellowship programme, every year the college is sending 3 scholars to the Cambridge University for higher finding out for a period of four months. On the instructional front, the college has got NAAC 5 big name status and the H index (publication) of the college is 74, which is the highest within the state, he informed. To enhance instructional requirements, the college has signed MoU with premier institutes in India and in another country. Every year rankings of scholars and school are despatched to other institutes underneath the knowledge alternate programme, he added.
Five villages to be adopted
The vice-chancellor said Karnataka University has been decided on underneath the Unnat Bharath Abhiyaan and 5 villages namely Dhummawad, Pudakalkatti, Gudgeri, Shiraguppi and Byalal villages in Dharwad district can be adopted by means of the college for socio-economic development underneath the scheme.
A cell has been arrange and nodal officer appointed to check the lifetime of the people and prepare programmes for rural building.
