Kutch farmers to cultivate 10k ha land in Zambia

Rajkot: Soon, farmers from Kutch can be cultivating land 1000's of miles away within the African continent.
A memorandum of figuring out (MoU) in this regard was once signed on Thursday between a Kutch-based corporate Odhav Housing Project Pvt Ltd and Zambia-based Fidanna Group Ltd.

Under the agreement, farmers from Kutch would cultivate 10,000 hectare land in Zambia’s Solwezi, Chongwe, Mkushi and Mumbwa provinces. The MoU was once signed right through the global business pageant organized in Rajkot by means of Saurashtra Vepar Udhyog Mahamandal (SVUM).

Rajendra Tank, vice-president of Bhuj Chamber of Commerce and Industry signed the MoU on behalf of Odhav Housing Project Pvt Ltd.

Talking to TOI, Tank mentioned, “There is a big population of Patels in Kutch with their roots in African international locations. Their relations have settled down there. These Patels from Kutch have an interest to do trade in African international locations.”

He added, “We will put ahead this proposal before our participants who will talk over with the site. Thereafter, interested investors will signal the hire agreement with the federal government of Zambia.”

Zambia’s main crop is maize and majority of the farmers nonetheless use conventional farming methods. Under the agreement with Fidanna Group, Kutch investors want to jointly develop the agriculture in 10,000-hectare land in Solwezi, Chongwe, Mkushi and Mumbwa.

According to the terms and stipulations of the MoU, “The deal can be finalized after a talk over with and survey of the land. Visa, license, executive documentation, labour management and operations will be the accountability of the Fidanna Group.”

The Indian businessmen and farmers will cultivate the land with latest generation and provide the marketing technique to Zambian firms.


President of Bhuj Chamber of Commerce and Industry Anil Gor mentioned, “We plan to cultivate pulses there. The executive there gives exemption in source of revenue tax to agro firms and there is no export accountability. The labour too is reasonable there. We simply have to send our supervisors.” The project is expected to start within the subsequent twelve months.


Don Fidelis Chulu II, founder and CEO of Fidanna Group Ltd, told TOI, “We are looking for strategic partnership in agriculture because best 10% of fertile land in our country is under cultivation. The Indian businessmen will switch us generation and teach our folks. We plan to export the agro commodities to African, European and Asian international locations.”


He mentioned that they want to focal point on cultivation of groundnut and honey with the assistance of Indian farmers.
