Shivamogga: A mild tremor, 3rd one this month, hit portions of Hosanagara and Thirthahalli taluks of Shivamogga district within the early hours of Tuesday. The epicentre of the micro-tremor used to be traced to Vittalanagara, Thirthahalli taluk. Though it used to be no longer recorded on Richter scale, it used to be calculated as a 2.2 magnitude earthquake.
According to local residents, the primary tremor used to be reported on February 3 at 1.33 am. Next day, on February four also, locals skilled a tremor round 12.31 pm. “This is the 3rd tremor in a month. We are in point of fact tensed,” said Ashok Naik, a villager.
“We were all in deep sleep. Suddenly we all awoke to a loud noise. It used to be round 2.30 am. Even before realizing what used to be going down, the floor began to shake. Vessels, bags and so on fell down. We rushed out of the house fearing that the village is once more hit through a tremor. By the time, lots of our neighbors also rushed out of their homes. As we underwent a an identical experience a couple of days in the past also, we waited outside the house for a couple of more minutes fearing more tremors,” said Sharat Kumar, a staffer with Yadur grama panchayat.
“Many villagers skilled the noise and the tremors. Tremors were also reported from a number of surrounding villages including Sulugodu, Kavari and so on,” he said.
Y G Krishnamurthy, member, Yadur grama panchayat, said many villagers referred to as him informing in regards to the tremor. “I was in Bengaluru. But many locals knowledgeable me in regards to the tremor,” he said.
Speaking to TOI, senior scientist, department of mines and geology, C R Rashmi said that lately's tremor used to be no longer recorded within the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC) grasp keep watch over room or any other centres. “As according to the instructions of the deputy commissioner, we approached the centre. But as it used to be a low-intensity tremor and it used to be no longer recorded within the Richter scale,” she said.
