SURAT: Employees of Gujarat State Road Transport Corporation’s (GSRTC) Surat division got rid of garments and tonsured their heads on the second day of the statewide strike right here on Friday.

More than 2,700 state delivery staff in Surat division are on an indefinite strike to press for acceptance in their long-pending demands, including implementation of the Seventh Pay Commission’s recommendations by way of the state government. Over 3,500 journeys from Surat to more than a few destinations within the state and Maharashtra were suspended, sources stated.

The environment at the ST’s central bus depot was charged within the afternoon after the fastened salary staff were given termination letters by way of GSRTC control on Friday. The staff shouted anti-government slogans and accused the control of working to wreck the indefinite strike.

PAAS convener Hardik Patel visited the placing ST staff at central bus station and confident his make stronger to them.


ST Karmachari Union general secretary Kaushik Desai instructed TOI, “The GSRTC control is pressuring the fastened salary staff to return to accountability by way of issuing them termination letters. The control wants to wreck our union. We are fighting for justice for ST staff and this will continue. Our drivers and conductors are considered elegance four staff and the ST staff have now not been given the good thing about the Seventh Pay Commission yet.”


Sources in railway division stated rush of passengers travelling in trains to Valsad, Navsari and Bharuch was heavy all through the day.


Ganesh Jadhav, industrial inspector at Surat railway station, instructed TOI, “The ST strike has put extra power on Indian Railways. The rush of passengers is heavy on the station as other people don't have any other option. Trains working quick distance destinations are virtually full.”
