ROHTAK: Thirty-eight elderly individuals who had passed through eye surgical procedures at three Haryana government hospitals a couple of days back, were on Wednesday admitted to Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (PGIMS) in Rohtak with serious eye infection and pain. The "botched-up" cataract surgical procedures have more than likely rendered them blind, say medical doctors.
They are being treated at through the special retina unit staff of PGIMS eye division.
It is learnt that almost 400 patients had got their eyes operated upon at Bhiwani, Karnal and Jhajjar government hospitals on March 11, 13 and 18.
Sources said that "botched-up" procedures and drugs use had resulted in the infection, leading to pain in the eyes.
Munshi Ram of Alwar district in Rajasthan said he had got his eye process finished at Bhiwani government health center a couple of days ago and long past house. "I started experiencing pain in the eyes the very next day. On consulting a doctor, I was told that pain is a natural occurence after an eye operation, but it became unbearable by the day," he added.
Situation critical, doctors to examine patients nowadays
Kamla Devi of Jind district said when she went for a checkup after some days after experiencing pain, pus was once detected in her eyes and he or she was once referred to PGIMS.
Doctors attending on the patients told media individuals that the infection is serious and the “scenario is slightly critical”.
One physician even said that it will be tricky to restore the patients’ eyesight and their eyes would possibly want to be got rid of to curb the infection from spreading.
Dr Varun Arora, public relation office, PGIMS, showed that 38 patients have been dropped at Rohtak medical college with eye infection and are being treated at the eye division.
He said more details could be recognized after a panel of medical doctors examines them on Thursday.
