BENGALURU: Six other people, including two girls, have been arrested on charges of abducting and murdering a 73-year-old woman. They are suspected of having stolen 100 grams of gold ornaments from her.
Tippesh S, 30, and his spouse T Rakshita, 19, citizens of Naganathapura; S Prasanna, 34, from Garvebavipalya; K Madhusudan, 30, from Adugodi; V Mahesh, 30, from JP Nagar, and M Baghya, 32, from Hosakerehalli were arrested by a different team from Madiwala. Police stated they are suspected of abducting Hemavati alias Hemamma, a widow who lived on my own at her place of abode on VP Road, close to Madiwala, on February 24.
Police, who suspect Tippesh to be the mastermind, stated: “He had learnt that Hemavati lived on my own and had gold jewellery at house. Accompanied by girls accomplices, he visited her space in the second one week of February on the pretext of attempting to find houses to rent.”
“On February 24, Rakshita and others visited the lady and gave her fruit juice spiked with sleeping drugs. After Hemavati misplaced consciousness, they shifted her to a automobile, drove to a canal close to Turuvekere in Tumakuru district and strangled her to death earlier than dumping the body in the canal,” police added.
Investigation had begun after a detailed relative of Hemavati filed a missing complaint on February 28.
