Attempt-to-murder case: Man nabbed after nearly four decades in Karnataka

MANGALURU: Avil D’Souza, 56, who hails from Padpu Adam Kudru near Jappinamogaru and currently staying in Kumpala near Thokkottu, was arrested after nearly 4 decades in an attempt-to-murder case.


A senior Mangaluru city police respectable said that throughout the 1980s, there was rampant manufacturing of illicit liquor in Adam Kudru and adjoining places. This used to hit the business of authorized liquor producers in the district and to curb this menace, they might conduct raids on those places. In one such raid in 1980, Avil had allegedly assaulted Ganesh Shetty. A case was booked towards him at Mangaluru Rural police station.


Soon after the case was registered, Avil fled to a Gulf country for work and have been absconding ever since. He didn't attend any courtroom proceedings and a warrant have been issued towards him.


Anti-Rowdy Squad staff, under the supervision of Mangaluru South sub-division ACP Rama Rao, arrested Avil on Thursday. After quitting work in another country, Avil had settled down together with his circle of relatives in Kumpala. He has been sent to judicial custody.


So a long way, South sub-division police have arrested 5 persons who have been absconding for more than twenty years with out attending courtroom proceedings.
