Organisation of volunteers revives lakes in drought-hit Hassan

HASSAN: With all of the district hit by way of drought, a voluntary organisation has taken up lake rejuvenation, bringing hope to farmers and local residents. Hasirubhumi Prathisana is reviving 10 lakes by way of involving local communities.


The organisation, started on May 1, 2017, is led by way of Hassan assistant commissioner HL Nagaraj as honorary president and YN Subba Swamy as president. Social activists, together with RP Venkatesh Murthy and Roopa Hassan, are working in more than a few capacities.


Subba Swamy said the orgaisation has taken up development of Dodda Kondugula, Thirupatihalli (two lakes), Chikka Honnenahalli, Javenahalli, B Katalli - Sattekatte, B Katehalli Ura Mundinakatte, Gavenahalli Lake, Aralahalli Kengatte and Shantinagara Nanjyyanakatte lakes. "Rejuvenation of three lakes is under progress and work at seven lakes is complete," he said.


According to office-bearers, a major achievement is community engagement. When the organisation started paintings a B Katehalli village, a number of residents pledged monetary fortify and vehicles, among other issues. According to Lalitkumar of Shri Maruti Welfare Association, who is a part of the organisation, villagers are donating cash for the venture.


Hassan Kendriya Vidyalaya essential Valmiki prolonged monetary fortify via oldsters. Local gram panchayat president Mohan Kumar gave a JCB freed from cost, besides donating Rs 20,000.
