Parking issue: 108 societies get notice

SURAT: As many as 108 residential societies in various portions of the city had been served notices for not permitting guests to park their vehicles within their premises.

The action has been taken following police commissioner Satish Sharma’s orders that societies can’t stop visitors from parking their vehicles within. The issue used to be raised by way of some contributors in Road Safety Council assembly after which Sharma assured action.


The notices were served after police performed a survey in spaces like Vesu, VIP Road, Varachha, Punagam, Yogi Chowk, Mota Varachha. In many societies, police also were given the notices banning guests from parking within removed.


“After orders from police commissioner, we started the force and recognized such societies. We have served them notices and were given their warning forums removed,” said Sudhir Desai, deputy commissioner of police, traffic.


On-road parking in majority of the residential societies has turn out to be a significant nuisance. Not most effective visitors but also the citizens in these societies are the use of public roads to park their vehicles, which ultimately ends up in traffic jam. Traffic police is taking movements mostly in industrial spaces while the unauthorised parking issue remain unaddressed in residential spaces.
