State RJD chief dumps Lalu’s party to join BJP

Ranchi: An afternoon after her birthday party walked out of the Jharkhand mahagathbandhan, state RJD president Annapurna Devi on Monday crossed over to BJP at a formal ceremony in New Delhi. Devi was once earlier referred to as one among RJD leader Lalu Prasad’s relied on lieutenants.
Chief minister Raghubar Das, BJP nationwide leader Amit Shah, nationwide secretary Bhupendra Yadav and state president Laxman Gilua had been provide when Devi switched her allegiance to the saffron birthday party, RJD’s arch-rival.

Soon after Devi’s go out, RJD convened a gathering that chose Gautam Sagar Rana as its new state leader. Earlier, for weeks, it had continuously denied speculation about Devi switching her political loyalties.

As a prelude to her entry into BJP, Devi had met Das and Yadav at the CM’s Kanke Road place of dwelling here on Sunday night, hours after RJD dumped the mahagathbandhan after the latter refused to offer it multiple Lok Sabha seat within the state. The Lalu Prasad-led birthday party had sough to fight in a minimum of two constituencies.

On Monday morning, Devi left here for Delhi where she was once later joined by Das and Gilua. They later known as a press conference at the BJP headquarters to announce entry into BJP. Besides Devi, former RJD MLA Janardan Paswan also joined BJP. Sources mentioned a few more senior RJD leaders would possibly sign up for the saffron birthday party soon.

In local political circles, Devi’s departure is observed as a significant blow to RJD, which is making an attempt to enlarge its base within the state. Initially, RJD had requested the mahagathbandhan to allot three seats — Chatra, Palamu and Koderma, all bordering south-eastern Bihar. Following objections from other mahagathbandhan constituents, it focussed on Chatra and Palamu. But mahagathbandhan did not want to give it every other seat other than Palamu.
