Tirupur shops chip in to create voting awareness

TIRUPUR: Some business establishments in Tirupur district of Tamil Nadu have come forward and joined in an balloting awareness marketing campaign. They have revealed slogans on their bills.

As a part of the SVEEP (Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation) programme, the district election cell has started distributing rubber stamps to a few shops, so that they could imprint the slogans on bills given to their consumers.

"We have been running a medical shop for the last three years in Avinashi. Since we are ardent supporters of Athikadavu Avinashi drinking water supply and groundwater recharge scheme, our bills would always carry a slogan on the scheme. As the country is going to polling booth, we wanted to do our bit in creating awareness about voting. So, our bills have an additional slogan -- 'My vote is not for sale, all should exercise their voting right on April 18'," mentioned K Subramaniam of Kalanjiyam Vivasaigal Sangam, which runs Sanjeevani Pharmacy.

Assistant returning officer B Jayakumar mentioned, "We have started distributing rubber stamps, which could imprint different slogans for creating awareness about voting."
