Tussle continues, Devinder to approach Election Commission against Sukhpal Khaira

PATIALA: Having accused Sukhpal Khaira of "misleading the people of Punjab by protecting himself as the president of the Punjab Ekta Party (PEP)", Shiromani Akali Dal (Taksali) candidate from Anandpur Sahib Bir Devinder on Thursday stated he would report a complaint with the Election Commission (EC) within the subject.

Former deputy speaker of the state meeting, Devinder, stated that Khaira used to be holding public meetings as PEP chief while as in step with the paperwork to be had with the EC one Sanakdip Sandhu used to be the president of the newly-constituted PEP. Khaira used to be not even an office-bearer of the celebration, he added.

Devinder demanded that EC will have to begin action in opposition to Khaira for impersonating as president of the PEP. "Khaira had publicly announced that he was the president of the Punjab Ekta Party by holding a press conference. It has been done only to mislead other political parties in the state, which was nothing short of political cheating," he added.

Producing a screenshot of the Election Commission web page, Devinder confirmed the names of office-bearers of the PEP. The checklist didn't have Khaira's identify.

Reacting to the attack, Khaira stated the allegations had been fallacious. In a statement, the Bholath MLA stated, "The fact was that Sanakdip Sandhu of Faridkot applied for registration of party as its president and subsequently, I was appointed ad hoc president. Once the process of registration is complete, the party volunteers will elect me as president and the EC will be duly informed about change of office bearers."
