Vadodara: A peon of Vadodara Municipal Corporation was caught red-handed whilst accepting bribe from a businessman who have been served notice over pending belongings tax of his fabrication unit.
Accused Gopal Mali had approached the businessman on March 15 informing him that his unit would be sealed if he fails to pay the pending tax quantity. When the complainant showed willingness to pay straight away, Mali demanded Rs 10,000 announcing that he would ensure that the businessman does no longer need to pay the effective for overdue fee.
Mali then again and again kept harassing him for the bribe quantity and the businessman then approached the anti-corruption bureau (ACB). The ACB laid a lure and requested the businessman to inform the peon that he would pay him Rs 10,000 together with the cheque for belongings tax. At this, he requested the businessman to meet him at Mali Mohalla in Chhani on Sunday morning. At the appointed position ACB sleuths caught him redhanded as soon as he accepted the cheque and the money.tnn
