Kundapur: If it’s a time to make promises for netas, elections also are a time for other folks to boost their voice and demand answers to long-pending issues. Speaking to TOI, social worker Somashekar said, “Due to political power and opposition from about 4 homes, in spite of the zilla panchayat sanctioning Rs 7 lakh for building of a neatly earlier than the elections had been declared, the project has been put on cling.”

He explained that in response to the demand of villagers, panchayat officers identified a space to build a neatly in the Bijur Government Higher Primary School premises. The School Development and Monitoring Committee (SDMC) participants agreed to this proposal and the block schooling officer (BEO) also granted permission for a similar. The BEO had known as for objections, if any, and a majority of the residents had been in favour of building of a public neatly in the school premises. However, because of power put via local politicians, the construction of the neatly has been put on cling. Members from about 4 homes feared that building of the neatly would mean depletion of water in the wells of their homes. “With the summer season environment in, the water crisis will only irritate. Another factor that worries villagers is saltwater entering into the wells. Through there's a water pipeline of the panchayat, water does now not glide via it regularly. We desire a permanent approach to the consuming water crisis, and hence we have made up our minds to boycott polls,” he said.


Sathish Tolar, in-charge panchayat construction officer, said, because of local politics, the paintings associated with building of the neatly has been put on cling. In case the paintings commences on time, about 80 per cent of the paintings could be finished via now. “The villagers have threatened to boycott polls. They are demanding a permanent approach to the consuming water crisis, and had even put up banners in regards to the similar. We have attempted to convince them and requested them to remove the banners. During summer season, water is provided via tankers. While, budget had been sanctioned under the task pressure, additional budget had been even promised for the project,” he said.

Residents of Vadlur, Chikkavadlur and Hanumadoddi villages of Raichur taluk have made up our minds to boycott the Lok Sabha elections over the water factor. They alleged that although the consuming water project used to be finished via 2017, the local administration failed to provide water as the city frame denied permission to carry water from Chikkasugur. The locals had made a number of requests up to now and have now written a letter to the zilla panchayat CEO on plans to boycott the election.
